Screen Actors Guild members have voted to up their dues in the run-up to contract negotiations next year. The initiation fee will be upped from $1,474 to $2,211, effective Friday, Feb. 16. Annual dues will be bumped up by $16 dollars a year for actors making less than $500,000 and by $16-plus for those making between $500,000 and a million.
The plus is an increase in work dues to .025% of earnings between $500,000 and a million. Previously, the ceiling on the work-dues fee had been $500,000. “By generating a potential $5 million-$7 million a year," says SAG President Alan Rosenberg, "we can move forward and expand our organizing and emerging technology departments, conduct critical research and maximize our leverage heading into our contract negotiations in 2008.” It is the first dues increase since 1999, according to SAG.
