CBS’ Cane Is Able to Draw Hispanics
Cane Pounds Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in Nielsen Hispanic Station Index in New York

Cane, CBS' new drama starring Jimmy Smits as the head of a Cuban-American family with a rum and sugar empire in south Florida, is a somewhat surprisingly strong draw with Hispanic households in the nation's top market.
While the show came in behind NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Tuesday night in total viewers with 707,000 in New York versus 782,000 for SVU, in the Nielsen Hispanic Station Index, Cane averaged 112,000 viewers to only 37,000 for SVU in its 10 p.m.-11 p.m. time period (the winner among Hispanics was WXTV's Sexo y Otro Secretos with 216,000).
The NHSI is made up of Hispanic households, both English- and non-English-speaking.
But why is Cane's popularity a surprise given the 4 million or so Hispanics in the city and the high-profile Hispanic cast, including Jimmy Smits, Hector Elizando and Rita Moreno?
"Our experience with programs like George Lopez and other English-language programs starring Hispanic personalities has been that they don't skew ethnically more Hispanic that other English-language primetime shows," said one veteran local-station ratings cruncher in the Big Apple. "This appears to be an exception."

I have been a fan of Cane ever since the show premiered! As of 9:22 CST, I am forever banning Cane in my house. I thought it was in EXTREMELY poor taste to show a "Pit Bull" type of dog purposely attack a person! I thought that the entire scene behind the bar was unnecessary and a horrible depiction of an animal. I understood the message that was being sent by the scene and think it could have been done in any other fashion than it was. It only makes the controversy of "pit bulls" so much worse. Shame on CBS for allowing it to air.

Cane is an awesome show. I really think CBS has something with this
one,
I just hope they let it run for longer than one season. There is some
really good music in this show too
like the Wilshires,Mellowdrone, and Mikeyton. I really love the songs
that former Tonic lead singer
Emerson Hart has in the show though. In the episode when Jaime
proposed to Rebecca in the kitchen I thought Emerson's
'When She Loves You' was great for that scene. Anyway, I looked him
up on Myspace and his new album
Cigarettes and Gasoline sounds good, check it out.

People may be overlooking the presence of Paola Turbay in the show. She was miss Colombia at one point and is one of the most beloved personalities in her home country. New York has a sizable Colombian population which I''m sure is somehow represented in the ratings for the show.
