The new programs at 11 p.m. Sept. 15-18 drew 1.94 million viewers each night according to live-plus-same-day data, a 28% increase over the year-to-date average of 1.5 million viewers.
The record ratings came as the show returned from hiatus following its field coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in Denver and St. Paul, Minn., respectively. Those shows drew strong ratings, above the year-to-date average but below what the show received last week.
Overall, it was a very good few weeks for The Daily Show, which earned its sixth consecutive Emmy Award for outstanding variety, music or comedy series.
Hoping to keep on that ratings-generating path, the show is planning an election-night one-hour live special at 10 p.m., co-anchored by Stewart and The Colbert Report’s Stephen Colbert.
