Univision to Debut Spanish-Language Primetime Animated Series
El Chavo del 8 to Launch Jan. 20

Univision said it will debut the first-ever U.S. Spanish-language primetime animated series when half-hour show El Chavo del 8 launches Jan. 20.
Somewhat like the first U.S. primetime English-language cartoon series, The Flintstones, which was loosely based on popular live-action series The Honeymooners, Univision's new show is based on the popular live-action Mexican TV show of the same name, which aired in the 1970s.
The show will air Sundays from 7:30 p.m.-8 p.m., but it will launch with a live-action special at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 featuring some of the stars of the original series, the brainchild of Roberto Gómez Bolaños. It is about the trials and tribulations of orphan El Chavo (Bolaños) in a Mexico City neighborhood.
