Sci Fi, Manga Renew Ani-Monday
New anime programs from Starz unit to roll out in late July.

Sci Fi Channel renewed its weekly “Ani-Monday” block of anime series and movies for a second season.

Beginning in late July, Ani-Monday -- which will run Mondays from 11 p.m.-1 a.m. (EST) -- will feature new animated movies, series and shorts from Manga Entertainment, the anime distribution arm of Starz Entertainment.
Sci Fi will roll out the new programs -- including the U.S. premieres of series Gurren Lagann and Gundam 00 and films like Strait Jacket -- over the next several months (see schedule below).
Some of the programs will be available for download on unspecified digital platforms after airing on Sci Fi.
“Our viewers have been enthusiastic about the Ani-Monday block from Manga Entertainment since the programming first aired just over a year ago,” Sci Fi senior vice president of programming and original movies Thomas Vitale said. “We believe viewers will be even more excited about this incredible new lineup of top anime Manga is delivering.”
“Sci Fi Channel has been a terrific partner, introducing our quality anime to the channel’s large, diverse community,” added Marc DeBevoise, Starz Media senior VP of digital media and business development. “The audience for anime is growing and, so, we’re very happy to have this ideal platform to bring the best Japanese animation to viewers in this country.”
The Ani-Monday schedule:
• July: Ghost in the Shell: The Movie; Sword for Truth; Vampire Wars; Black Jack: The Movie; Gurren Lagann; and Now and Then, Here and There.
• August/September: Gurren Lagann; Now and Then, Here and There; M.D. Geist; Psychic Wars; and Dead Leaves.
• October: Gurren Lagann; Gundam 00; Strait Jacket; and Descendents of Darkness.
• November/December: Gundam 00; and Descendents of Darkness.
