Tim Russert, the late host of Meet the Press and Washington senior vice president and bureau chief for NBC News, will receive the Radio-Television News Directors Association's Paul White Award Oct. 13 at a ceremony in New York.

Tim Russert

The award, for lifetime contribution to electronic journalism, is named after the first news director at CBS. Other recipients have included fellow NBC newsman Tom Brokaw and CBS News icons Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite.

"Tim’s name was high on the list of those considered to receive the RTNDA's highest honor,” said Bill Roswell, chairman of the committee that picked Russert for the honor, in a statement. “While his career ended too quickly, his legacy and his leadership on- and off-camera will live on forever. Presenting the Paul White Award to Tim is the RTNDA's way of commemorating his life and his contributions to electronic journalism.”

Accepting the award will be his wife, Maureen Orth, and son, Luke.
