Univision's WXTV New York newscasts were the top-rated in the market among all stations last week for broadcasts packed with presidential-election coverage, but not the one featuring candidates named Obama, Clinton or McCain.
According to the stations, its 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts won the weekday ratings race (May 12-16) against the English-language competition for the first time in almost one year with coverage of the run-up to the May 16 election of Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez to a third term.
According to the station, there are some 750,000 Dominicans in the New York area, and many of them can vote. The country allows expatriates to vote in presidential elections.
