'Jersey Shore' Finale Draws 3.1M Viewers
Least-watched finale in series history

That was also down 34% from the sixth-season premiere on Oct. 4 (4.7 million viewers). Among the adults 18-49 demo, the finale drew a 1.8 rating. At its peak, the show averaged almost 9 million total viewers.
The franchise has launched a few spin-offs in The Pauly D Project and Snooki & JWOWW, which premieres its second season in January. The network also recently greenlit a Vinny Guadagnino talk show.
And does MTV expect BUCKWILD to bring in 9 million viewers? Or are the people at MTV very willing to accept a small audience on their network overall in search of scripted programming that will be hits and attract sponsors/ advertisers that are most-desired that make the most money?
The pattern of MTV has always been that when an iconic show goes off the air, MTV already has another hit on the air and feels no pain letting a fallen show go (THE OSBOURNES, NEWLYWEDS: NICK & JESSICA, THE HILLS). Now, MTV does not have any hits to immediately go to (TEEN WOLF, AWKWARD only air in the Summer, TEEN MOM 2 & CATFISH just enough to survive, can SNOOKI & J-WOWW still be a hit?). WASHINGTON HEIGHTS & BUCKWILD must prove their worth at MTV if they can to be worthy JS replacement.
Or again, MTV could be all that willing to accept a smaller audience temporarily or permanently to find a few more scripted hits. (case in point: 2013 MTV MOVIE AWARDS not only will be 2 months earlier, but will have a smaller scale upcoming star like REBEL WILSON of PITCH PERFECT instead of the likes of JASON SEDAKIS, RUSSELL BRAND, ANDY SAMBERG, MIKE MYERS, etc).
