WPIX News Director Carey Resigning
Three year stint in NY coming to close

The New York Post reports that Carey has resigned, though the company insider said the official resignation is likely to go down in the coming days.
Carey has tried some unique initiatives to jumpstart ratings at the CW affiliate, including going on air at 4 a.m. and enticing viewers with a "Cash Grab" giveaway during the news.
Prior to PIX, Carey was VP and general manager at WFTS Tampa, and was news director at WCBS New York from 1996 to 1999.
WPIX is mired in a retrans-induced fight with Cablevision that has seen the station dark for subscribers of that cable service since mid-August.
We've seen LIN getting former New Vision stations... Scripps getting former McGraw-Hill stations... and Sinclair getting former Freedom stations. Newport selling stations to Nexstar and Sinclair. Media General selling its newspaper properties... not sure about what will eventually become of its TV properties. Tribune may have to sell newspaper and TV properties.
I could picture Gannett getting WDCW... Belo getting KIAH and KRCW... Scripps getting WGNO... Sinclair getting KPLR... Fox getting KSWB and KCPQ/KZJO... Meredith getting KTXL... Hearst getting WNOL.
As for Carey's departure from WPIX... we don't know if we'll get to see a repairing of Jim & Kaity on the 10PM news, and Jodi being reassigned.

This is just the beginning of what is going to be happening to a lot of these Tribune-owned TV and radio stations, where people of the previous regimes will be forced out and once new ownership takes over the Zell-runned Tribune, they'll start to sell off assets like nobody's business...starts in NYC, then with WGN in Chicago and to KTLA in LA. This company is desperate for a leadership change in the worst possible way.
