FCC Chairman Welcomes Fox/Dish Deal
Urges Fox, Cablevision to complete negotiations

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski gave a shout-out to Fox and Dish Friday for coming to agreement on a new retransmission consent/carriage deal, including restoring some Fox cable nets (including regional sports nets) that had been off Dish.
He called on Fox and Cablevision to follow suit.
"I welcome the news that Fox and Dish Network have agreed to extend their contract for carriage of Fox TV stations on Dish's satellite system," he said in a statement. "Their current contract was slated to expire at midnight this Sunday, and the extension ensures that there will be no interruption of Dish subscribers' ability to view the programming of these Fox stations.
"I am pleased that Fox and Dish have kept in mind their responsibility to protect consumers from blackouts when they negotiate carriage terms," he said, "I urge Fox and Cablevision to complete their negotiations and end the impasse that has disrupted service to viewers."
Fox stations have been off Cablevision systems serving New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia since Oct. 16.

The FCC chair is elated because it's feet were starting to get warm, It would be interesting to see the line item charges that News Corp is charging Dish for a very large package. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 channels I believe. Cablevision is interested in 2 channels and there's the rub. Bet News Corp virtually gave away the sports package to secure Dish's agreement. Dish and Dish customers won on the back of Cablevision customers. News Corp couldn't risk losing more coverage since it is in danger of losing it's market share in a very valuable demographic. The FCC should be ashamed if its impotent self. Hurray for who? A deal was struck over desperation and if Dish was true to itself it would have stayed the course and made the market a better place for all subscribers, but I also can't blame them for seizing the moment and catching Fox with a Helmet hit. I can hear the concussion all the way in Hamilton NJ. The silly thing is I haven't missed a thing and that's the problem both companies can't seem to get their arms around, it's a fact that cablevision is going to have to refund customers for missed service, they should know that by now, but they could throw a real curve ball at the networks by helping customers capture the networks over the air. If they offered a over the air package for free attached with the rest of their pay channels they could cut the network cord and charge for the meat and potato's of its multiple channels. Anyway I get all of it for free over the airwaves on a $39.99 antenna and 1 hour of labor. Anyone in the 3.1 million customer area can do it with very little effort, even if you live in an apartment. Put you antenna close to a window facing toward Philly or New york and presto you will get a Fox broadcast station, Make sure you scan for channels with your Digital TV (post 2007) or a set top converter for older models. I say drop all broadcast networks, put the money back in our pockets and maybe we will re-invest it in Cablevision in other programming area's...Say the NFL network...Trust me the NFL network is going to be the ticket in 2012 after the lockout next year. You can rest assured that the NFL will be looking to expand that network in their ongoing bargaining negotiations. Well I'm going to sit back and watch this on going ping pong match, doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. I'm gonna watch what ever I want when ever I want and Neither one of these companies can stop me, either legally or illegally, Content is everywhere, all ya gotta do is look hard enough and both these companies think you won't look, so get off the coach and light up those search engines guy's. Man what a great time to be alive!
