Sky Angel Files Program Access Complaint Against Discovery
IPTV distributor says company plans to terminate agreement years early

IPTV distributor Sky Angel has filed both a program access complaint at the FCC and also asked for a standstill order on its current contract.According to Sky Angel, Discovery plans to terminate its agreement with the distributor more than four years early, and within the next two weeks.
Sky Angel says Discovery has notified it that the existing affiliation agreement would terminate Apr. 22, 2010 rather than the current Dec. 31, 2014, citing concerns about the way the programming is being delivered, though without elaboration.
Sky Angel says the move would discriminate against it in favor of other distributors, like Time Warner and Comcast, who deliver Discovery programming over the 'net. "Discovery's threatened unfair method of competition and unfair acts are designed to hinder Sky Angel's continued growth and the possibility that Sky Angel emerges as a viable competitor to the now-dominant cable and satellite MVPDs.
Sky Angel wants the commission to prevent Discovery from pulling the plug until the complaint has been resolved, saying that it could suffer irreparable harm if the commission does not, and pointing out that the Apr. 22 date is long before any pleading cycle could be completed on the complaint, which was filed March 24.
Sky Angel migrated from satellite delivery to a pure-play Internet video distributor a couple of years back.
Sky Channel says Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, the Military Channel, and more of the programmers offerings are "among the most popular" on the service and are thus "must-have" programming.
Discovery had no comment on the filings.

Hey how does it feel Sky angel to have someone back out on their word? Kind of like what YOU did to your loyal, lifetime members when you switched to IPTV and refused to honor the lifetime agreement? Payback, sky angel deserves this! too bad for the subscribers though.

We loved watching Discovery, Animal Planet, and the Military channels on our beloved Sky Angel. We are so disappointed. I hope they will reconsider thier position and not discrimnate or show prejudice against a faith based network.

Sky Angel has excellent programming, if discovery wants to treat them unfairly they will only hurt them selves, I prefer Sky Angel over any other programing, I will do more reading, and I will benefit. The discovery program is also Questionable they deliver altered truth, good riddance to them.

My mother has Alzheimer's and lives with us. Her vision is impaired. SkyAngel television was an answer to prayer. Secular TV would upset her and she would become belligerent when watching it, e.g. repeating the sarcasim and profanities directed toward us--with no basis for her attitude. One of her favorite calming channels was Discovery and the craft show. I have made adjustments to other programing and using DVD's. I wonder what Discovery would have done if SkyAngel had backed out of its contract four years early? I suspect they would have sued for breach of contract. Interesting they take offense to being held accountable for their breach. Where can we write the FCC and Discovery to complain?

I understand Sky Angels disgust and being upset about this short cutoff but in my opinion I would seek another source anyway. I quit watching Discovery long ago when constantly being bombarded with hints and refernces to evolution which when researched truthfully and honestly and intelligently it is found to be an impossible myth and at odds with my Christian faith and what I believe to be and overwhelming evidence for Creation if you're a Bible believeing Christian or Intelligent design theorist. I would guess from the many and mostly secular ties Discovery has that it would be the reasoning behind such action. As Christians we are now be overly wrought with hatred and prejudice, but then isn't that what Jesus Christ told us to expect.
