American Cable Association Supports Mediacom in Retrans Fight With Sinclair
ACA wants FCC to look into effect of local marketing agreements on retrans negotiations

The American Cable Association has filed comments in support of Mediacom in its retrans battle with Sinclair. ACA also wants the FCC to look into the effect of local marketing agreements on retransmission consent negotiations.Specifically, ACA was throwing its weight behind a Mediacom request to the FCC for an emergency order granting carriage rights.
ACA wants the commission to allow cable operators to continue carrying broadcast signals while it considers carriage complaints, saying that not to do so could cause competitive harms to smaller cable operators who lose access to a major network affiliate, particularly if a competing DBS provider carries an affiliate of that network.
"While an operator may be able to bring an open-and-shut good faith complaint to the commission," said ACA, "it cannot afford the loss of the signal while the complaint is being adjudicated."
ACA says local marketing agreements, in which one station can negotiate retrans for another station in the same market, drive up prices to consumers.

Mediacom has screwed up yet again. Whining about paying money out when you charge your customers to view this? Yeah, umm, NO WAY!
Sinclair is charging Mediacom as they should, since Mediacom hands this out as a "charged" package (basic cable). There's no excuse for mediacom to be in this predicament again!

Is Mediacom a small business or the nation's eighth largest cable company? How can both of their claims be true? I ask the ACA and FCC to stop falling for Mediacom's bellyaching that broadcasters, cable networks, and everybody else charges them too much while they perpetually refuse to honor southern Illinois Catholics' requests for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), which is free for carriers. In southern Illinois, most companies both larger and smaller than Mediacom have carried EWTN for many years. Last spring, Mediacom told me in writing they plan to add EWTN here in Carbondale by the end of the year. Can Mediacom improve their desired image of not being the large monster that ignores the needs and wants of small communities by honoring this promise?
