Disney-ABC Domestic Television has renewed its fantasy action hour, Legend of the Seeker, on Tribune Broadcasting’s owned stations for next fall, according to Disney-ABC Domestic Television Distribution President Janice Marinelli.
Tribune, which has operated as partner to Disney-ABC on the show from the beginning, owns stations in seven of the top ten markets and representing 35% of the country.
Legend of the Seeker, starring Craig Horner and Bridget Regan, has averaged between a 1.6 and 1.9 live plus same day national household rating since its Nov. 1 premiere. The show is produced by ABC Studios. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Spider- Man 2, Spider-Man 3 and The Evil Dead), Rob Tapert (The Grudge, Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Cleopatra 2525), Joshua Donen (The Quick and the Dead), Ned Nalle (production executive for Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and Ken Biller (Star Trek: Voyager and Six Degrees) serve as executive producers.

Actually I enjoyed the series, in spite of reading the books.
The "Palace of the Profits" *(prophets) slip by a previous person posting on this thread perhaps illuminates the reasoning behind the changes.
I read that series 2 is based on book 2. Therefore logically one can assume there HAS to be plot developments to land Richard in the new location.
The series was far TOO loosely based on book 1 and kind of lost the plot. Basically they need to NOT contradict the flow of the book even if they include events not actually in the book for the sake of making enough episodes in a series.
Richards sister is a major development in a later book. Perhaps she was included now because of trying to make a good impression in a first series.
The book series follows through Richards life and his relationship with Kahlan through a series of developments. One or two later books do not lend themselves to family TV without serious revision. Such as when Richard is imprisoned and taken to the old world. Terry Goodkind was promoting his own world view and laboured it gruesomely. Pages of it can be perhaps condensed to one line by Richard in a later series. More is superfluous. I am sure Goodkind would not appreciate that view, but its how I felt after reading that particular book. Goodkind is not one for subtlety when he can state his view blow by blow.
Nevertheless its a great series.
Basically the opening scene in series 1 was quite breathtaking. The slow motion etc of the horses galloping and Kahlan's getaway against a New Zealand scenic background is a great bit of cinematography, totally beautiful; and they should make more use of the scenery available on location.
I think the series is really worth renewal, but I also think aspects of character development and inter relationships should not be dumbed down too much.
Series 1 had a sense of chaos as to whether it would be a totally different plot to the books in terms of what happens with Richard and Kahlan and other characters and where it all leads.
I also found Dresden files didn't exactly follow the books and that was a wonderful series that got canned. It was a very different series like Farscape. r Lexx. This one is different and really good.
Following the spirit of the books without contradicting the flow of events and following major plot developments would be good.
The second book has a lot going on and a new environment, the palace of the prophets is where the sisters of the light live and theres a tribe nearby. To fill in a series you can also invent a few adventures that never happened and conversations. Theres a local town and various stuff that can happen.
The series is sufficiently different to other stuff about and full of imagination and adventure, with great lead characters.
Fantasy is great and theres other great series about worth making TV shows with. Theres too many ghost-medium type boring fantasy series about.
I would love to see the Ian Irvine Three worlds series or Janny Wurts Mistwraith serialised for TV.
Theres too many attempts at making things to a formula that already worked, therefore a copy of previous series and it makes for boring TV.
So good on Sam Raimi for making a series out of this.

I enjoyed the show until I read the books. What a disappointment the show is now. It is hardly the same story, they have completely changed it. Only the names are the same. They should say it is very very very loosely based on the books. The books are great! In the show they have already killed off main characters that come back later. They have introduced some characters way too soon. They must be planning on creating their own story now. What about the fact that Richard is Darken Rahl's son and becomes the new Lord Rahl? What of the Old World and the the Palace of the Profits? Will Richard become the war wizard that he is in the books? Will they even make him a wizard at all? If you enjoy the television show do not read the books, wait until it is cancelled. It will be cancelled sooner rather than later. I have spoken to many people who have read the books that do not watch the show because they ruined it. It is a shame because it could have been a good show if they had stayed true to the story as it is written. Somebody owes Terry Goodkind an appology.

I cannot wait for the second season to start. I love watching "Legend of the Seeker," after finding out about the show I watched all 22 episodes over a 3 day period and I am craving more.

I love this show sooo much!!! My mom and grandma watch it and they got me hooked! I have also been reading the books and they are just ( if not more) wonderful. I hope they continue the show for many season because there is still so much more story to be told.

I'm soooooo excited that there will be a 2nd season. does anyone know when it will be airing? I think its an easy series to get hooked on and you can identify with the characters and their struggles. i love it. i wish that world existed in reality.
