Broadcasting & Cable has named Claire Atkinson to the position of Business Editor. Based in B&C's New York office, she will report directly to B&C Editor-in-Chief Ben Grossman.
From 2002-2007, Atkinson was with Advertising Age, most recently as Deputy Media Editor. While at that publication, she became one of the most prominent voices in the industry while covering the intersection of media and advertising.
In her role, she made frequent television appearances analyzing the media industry, hosted multiple industry events and chaired a summit for the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association (now the Media Financial Management Association).
In 2007, Atkinson left Advertising Age to embark on a freelance career, and became a featured and regular contributor to several publications including The New York Times, Conde Nast Portfolio and B&C.
"Claire is as stellar a brand name in this business as any of the ones she has made her name covering so thoroughly throughout her career," Grossman says. "When I heard she had decided to return to a full-time position, I couldn't call her fast enough and was thrilled when she chose to join our media platforms."
Her experience also includes helping to launch PR Week in the United States, as well as writing for multiple publications in her native United Kingdom. She currently resides in Red Bank, N.J., with her husband and daughter.
Atkinson can be reached in B&C's New York offices as of Dec. 1 at 646-746-7024, and via e-mail at claire.atkinson@reedbusiness.com.
