The Nightly Times

By BroadCasting & Cable Staff -- Broadcasting & Cable, 12/3/2000 7:00:00 PM

PBS and The New York Times are an underwriter away from a national nightly late newscast that would compete with late local news. The proposed National Edition would be more like a network newscast than like PBS' signature Newshour With Jim Lehrer, which is more analytical and covers fewer stories. Local stations would be given time for sports, weather or news inserts.
