Consumer Electronics Association President Gary Shapiro congratulated Barack Obama on his victory Wednesday, saying that he ran an "innovative digital campaign" that showed he embraced technology in "creating opportunity, growing our economy and creating jobs."
He called on the president to recognize the value of free trade and open markets. "We look forward to working with the President-elect, his new Administration and Congress to ensure a strong and prosperous United States," said Shapiro.
Obama has said he favors technological solutions to media content control, making sure U.S. products are "treated fairly" in foreign markets, and has pledged to appoint the nation's first "chief technology officer".
The National Association of Broadcasters also added its congratulations: " NAB salutes Senator Obama on his historic achievement," said NAB spokesman Dennis Wharton. "Fortunately, most broadcast issues are not partisan, and we look forward to working with President-elect Obama, a new Congress, and a new FCC to preserve and strengthen American's free, local and ubiquitous broadcasting service."

Hi Louise,
We in the CI world already have a complicated time of it.
On one hand free trade keeps all the vendors happy and the import channels full while on the other as prices and quality drop to wal-m**t levels the clients perception of what an item is worth drops as well.
Keep in mind, we can import everything and soon no one will buy it, without good solid employment among the classes, no one will need a plasma TV when they are not sure how to afford diapers, thanks to rampant free trade!
President Obama will do what he can to clean up NAFTA but it may be too late and too harsh to impose tariffs on Chinese made electronics and speakers since they hold the bonds that fund our country. Let’s all rally and give this new bright government our support.

Well, that's just swell. The new President Elect Obama is going to be good for the consumer electronics industry. Huh? Well, I guess if you like Chinese made goods- he apparently does. The Custom Installation Sector of Consumer Electronics is already shrinking because no one has disposable income. Obama, good for giving people disposable income? Good for the housing industry? I think you better look again...

Free Trade with Obama? I think not. He has already stated he wants top increase tariffs on Chinese goods.
