Election Propels 'The Daily Show' Ratings

Program sees best night ever October 1, best month ever in September.

With its “Indecision 2008” presidential election coverage, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is breaking nearly all of its ratings records. (For complete election coverage, click here.)

The October 1 installment of the Comedy Central series drew 2.4 million viewers, making it the most watched night in the program’s history. Year to date the show has averaged 1.8 million viewers an episode.

In addition, September was its most watched month in history in both total viewers and P18-49. In fact, each of the previous three weeks has been the show’s best ever, with each subsequent week surpassing the previous one.

In an effort to keep that momentum going, both The Daily Show and sister program The Colbert Report will forgo a scheduled hiatus the week of October 13, instead presenting new episodes through the election November 4, when they will present a one hour live special at 10 p.m.

The Oct. 8 episode of The Daily Show included an interview with Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama. Comedy Central has made video of the interview available online, along with the full episode. View part 1 below and part 2 here.
