Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were announced by the National Football League and NBC Sunday night as the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLIII Halftime Show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., Sunday, Feb. 1.

The Super Bowl halftime show, usually one of the highlights of the event, annually claims the title of most-watched musical performance. More than 148 million viewers in the United States watched last year’s broadcast. The Super Bowl and its halftime show will be seen on televisions in more than 230 countries and territories worldwide.
Recent halftime performers include a long list of household names such as U2, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Paul McCartney.
One of the most controversial halftime acts was Janet Jackson’s and Justin Timberlake’s appearance at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, which sparked a debate over indecency brought into American homes by the cable industry.
