ABC’s Desperate Housewives was the most-watched program on television Sunday night, topping NBC’s Sunday Night Football telecast featuring the Chicago Bears hosting the Philadelphia Eagles.

Housewives drew a 7 rating/16 share during the 9 p.m.-10 p.m. hour, while SNF topped out with a 6.4/15.
Brothers and Sisters couldn’t hold onto the Desperate lead-in, garnering a 4.7/12 in the 10 p.m. hour.
Elsewhere, the return of its animated comedies helped to give Fox strong ratings, with The Simpsons delivering a 4.4/12 at 8 p.m., King of the Hill a 3.3/8 at 8:30 p.m., Family Guy asserting itself as that network’s top comedy with a 4.5/10 and American Dad with a 3.2/7. Fox also benefitted with an earlier football game running over into the 7 p.m. hour.
Overall, NBC on the night thanks to football drew a 5.2/13, with Fox finishing second, drawing a 4.6/12 thanks to the football runover, and ABC a close third with a 4.4/11. CBS -- which aired 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race and Cold Case -- finished fourth with a 2.6/7.
