The CBS Evening Newswith Katie Couric released a short portion of its three-part interview with Republican vice-presidential candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, which will air Thursday night.
Palin's interview with Couric will continue Sept. 29 and 30.
Following is the excerpt CBS released Thursday afternoon, in which she attempts to explain what she meant when she earlier said Alaska's proximity to Russia gave her meaningful insight into foreign affairs.
Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign-policy experience. What did you mean by that?
Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land -- boundary that we have with -- Canada. It … it's funny that a comment like that was ... kind of made to -- cari -- I don't know, you know? Reporters …
Couric: Mock?
Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.
Couric: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.
Palin: Well, it certainly does because our … our next-door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia …
Couric: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?
Palin: We have trade missions back and forth. We -- we do -- it's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where -- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is -- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to -- to our state.

Let's please remember that Palin is running for VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES (no small task here). It doesn't matter how anyone interviews her or how much they grill her, she should be able to handle it eloquently, confidently and INTELLECTUALLY! She certainly didn't display any of those characteristics during this interview. She may be a stellar mother (although her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and unmarried) and a decent governor (of Alaska no less), but she is completely unqualified to represent the United States of America as our future VP. God forbid something happens to McCain and she becomes the President. Then what??

I think it is sad that people really think Palin is ready to run the country. Looks, and lipstick is not a reason to put someone in the white house. What's funnier than that is that they say we don't have time to give Barack on the job training, but it's okay for Palin to have on the job training. She can't answer a simple question, what makes John McCain a Maverick. Wow if you can't answer that how can you answer a question on terrorism. I also think for Mccain to even pick Palin to run is a slap in the face to Hillary. Hillary is very knowledgeable and Palin is no way able to stand against Hillary Clinton. Palin should do what's best for the country she would be more respected by many more if she showed she had the country at heart.....

I was so excited when Katie Couric became your primetime news anchor, but I am so dissappointed in her grilling of Sara Palin in the matter she did that I will not be watching anymore. I have never been outspoken in my life and have never written a letter like this, but I'm so outraged I have to speak up. What I see is Katie is trying to look like she herself is way smarter than Sara. The news media has such a tendency to crucify anyone that is a Republican or does not have liberal enough views. I was raised in the 60's and I believe that women have come a long ways in being treated more fairly, but has the pendulum swung so far that now the women are hanging each other? AT this point I dont know enough about sara to decide yet if that is who I would vote for, and I see more all the time that the real story is never the truth that we are given by the media. When did fairness, honesty, and truth go completly away in the news that we are given to on a daily basis? This is so wrong!!!! The "trap" questions given to Sara by Katie Couric were evily contrived, and wrongfully I might add. And while we are at it, when has anyone ever gone in to an Elected Office knowing absolutely everything there is to know on Day One?????????? Katie, take a step back and look at what you have become. I know you still have a heart down there somewhere, please find it again.

This interview should give all voters pause for thought. Sarah Palin is not ready for prime time.
That she could sit in the oval offfice is unthinkable.
If she can't answer Katie Couric with any intelligence how in hell can she face the leaders of other nations in a one on one.
