The Association for Maximum Service Television (MSTV) lined up some heavy hitters for its annual TV conference Sept. 22 in Washington, D.C.

Given that MSTV is the spectrum-policy watchdog for the broadcast industry, the digital-TV transition is the focus.
Lined up as the keynote speaker is Meredith Attwell Baker, acting head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and in charge of the DTV-to-analog converter-box-subsidy program.
One issue that is top-of-mind in the wake of the early analog shutoff in Wilmington, N.C., is "Interference in the Digital World," an afternoon panel session at the Four Seasons Hotel that features a panel of broadcast- and cable-network and station-group engineers.
Legislators are expected to hit on that topic at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing the following day.
A group of advisors to the Federal Communications Commission members will also talk about what the FCC is doing to help in the transition, while the heads of the National Association of Broadcasters (David Rehr), the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (Kyle McSlarrow) and the Consumer Electronics Association (Gary Shapiro) will talk about industry efforts.
There are also panels on mobile TV, the effects of the election and the final push toward the Feb. 17, 2009, analog-cutoff date.
