Wednesday Delivers Highest PBS DNC Ratings Yet
Coverage of Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden's speech delivers a 2.2 rating/4 share.

PBS's Democratic prime time convention coverage scored its highest ratings Wednesday night with a 2.2 household rating/4 share, although that was down from the 2.5/4 it recorded for the same night of the 2004 Democratic convention.
That’s according to Nielsen overnight numbers.
PBS is the only broadcast network giving over its prime time 8-11 to convention coverage and up or down, the numbers are outperforming its prime time average by about 75%.
PBS averaged a 2.1/3 on Monday night, then dropped to a 2.0/3 Tuesday before bouncing back Wednesday. That diverged from the 2004 convention, when viewership spiked on day two and then dropped on day three.
But this day three included a speech by former President Bill Clinton, which wound up topping viewership for that of his wife and former Democratic presidential challenger Hillary Clinton the night before.

Word to that! PBS coverage far superior to CNN, MSNBC or Fox. And HD, for free. Only criticism: PBS should have covered the entire sessions, including the afternoon, right through primetime. With their superior reporting and HD pix, they should have been gavel to gavel. NOW GO DO A REAL 24-HR NEWS NETWORK, PBS! The OTA, free broadcast TV community needs it. Show cable how it should be done. Do it soon to take advantage of the DTV transition.

With all the bluster and bumbling invective tossed out by the 24-hour news networks; the TV winners of these conventions just might be PBS and C-Span.
PBS' HD broadcasts have been remarkably clean and unintrusive. They let the scene in Denver do the talking instead of the pundits and they relish in presenting just about every speaker possible. And when there is a downtime, they fill their time discussing the TRUE issues at the heart of the election instead of banalities like criticizing the stage at Mile High Stadium.
And a LOT of people are fleeing from the 24-hour nets to C-SPAN just to get away from the talking head marathon.
