C-SPAN: Convention Speeches to VOD
C-SPAN to make key Democratic, Republican National Convention speeches available on-demand.

C-SPAN said it will again make key Democratic and Republican National Convention speeches available on-demand.

The public-affairs network said it is working with Comcast and TVN Entertainment to provide its affiliates "rapid turnaround" for the presidential and vice-presidential acceptance speeches, keynotes and other events "within hours" of the events.
The Democrats are meeting Aug. 25-28 in Denver, while Republicans will gather in Minneapolis-St. Paul Sept. 1-4.
C-SPAN is also covering the convention gavel-to-gavel on C-SPAN, with C-SPAN II devoted to highlights and discussions with bloggers, delegates and others.
It is also introducing a "convention hub," which will supply multiple sources of convention-related video, a blogger "roundup" and an aggregation of Twitter comments (a flock of "tweets," as it were).
So, are people, Twitterers or not, going to be flocking to the after-the-fact video-on-demand of convention speeches?
C-SPAN VP of affiliate relations Peter Kiley said the keynote by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) four years ago got a lot of VOD traffic since many people didn't know him yet and missed the speech the first time around but tuned in after the buzz about his speech.
He added that with so many more VOD-enabled homes this time around, there should be more viewers looking to catch up on convention speeches or events they may have missed.
