NBC will try to embrace the controversy around its Baby Borrowers series with a reunion show and town hall Aug. 6, one week after the show’s season finale.

The show has come under fire from some because its premise separated young children from their parents and placed them with teen-agers for three days.
“The coincidence of this unique series has drawn media attention to the very important subject of the recent rise in teen pregnancies, as well as to recent related news ranging from the high-school students in Gloucester [Mass.] to pregnant teen celebrities such as Jamie Lynn Spears,” said Craig Plestis, executive vice president of alternative programming, development and specials at NBC Entertainment, in a press release. “This special should shed more light on a controversial subject that deserves more personal discussion beyond the social experiment that we provided to entertain audiences this summer.”
According to numbers provided by NBC, the show’s premiere did a 2.9 rating/8 share in the adult 18-49 demo, the network’s best nonsports numbers in the Wednesday 9 p.m.-10 p.m. slot since Jan. 2. The second airing July 2 did a 2.8.
