Ted Koppel Exploring Life in China

Koppel on Discovery: The People’s Republic of Capitalism to Premiere on Discovery Channel July 9

By Alex Weprin -- Broadcasting & Cable, 6/10/2008 8:11:00 AM

For the latest installment of his Koppel on Discovery series, former ABC Newser Ted Koppel is exploring America’s economic relationship with China, as well as how capitalism has affected China’s citizens.

Great Wall of China

The four-part special, Koppel on Discovery: The People’s Republic of Capitalism, will premiere on Discovery Channel Wednesday, July 9 at 10 p.m., with new installments premiering the next three days -- July 10, 11 and 12 -- also at 10 p.m.

"The U.S. would have an easier time disentangling itself from Germany or France than from the Chinese,” Koppel said, announcing the special. “In fact, as one Chinese billionaire told me, 'China is the most business-friendly government in the world.' The kicker is, he's probably right. Chinese and American businesses are taking full advantage of it, and you have to wonder how either country would get along without the other.”

The special will be dedicated to associate producer John Alexander, who, at age 26, died suddenly while working on the special in China.
