According to Nielsen, the largest viewing audience for all of those teens and 20-somethings on American Idol this season has been over 35.

In an “all things Idol” release issued Thursday in advance of next week’s final, Nielsen said 29% of the audience is in the 35-49 demo and another 23% in the 50-64 category. And there were more viewers over 65 (11%) than in the 18-24 demo from which most of the contestants come (7%)
The most-watched episode of the show was the first episode, Nielsen said, with 33 million viewers Jan. 15.
And confirming the text and phone votes of Idol fans, the two contestants who have generated the greatest online buzz are the two Davids, finalists Cook and Archuleta, who claimed 14.3% and 12.5% of the online "buzz," respectively (Nielsen said that comes from monitoring about 70 million blogs).

If you're ratings are based on blogging for Idol, your ratings are off. My sister is 63 and doesn't blog at all, but she wears her phone out every week voting for Archuleta... she was upset last week because she only got through 400 (yes, 4 hundred) times. I'm 66, seldom ever blog other than politically and I'm right behind her. I average 7 or 8 calls a minute. I'm sure we are not the only 2 Idol non-bloggers viewers that love David A. We vote for him because He has a beautiful voice, a precious attitude and I think because of his mature voice control, often people forget he just turned 17 this past December and still in high school. David Cook is 8 or 9 years older.

Watch junk like this is a waste of my time. If CBS AND FOX think there ratings look good. Then just wait until ratings go down. BORING!!!!

Proof that variety works for both key demos. Who will create the "Ed Sullivan Show" of the 21st century on Sunday nites? Here's a nomination for "Will Ferrell's Sunday Night Live." What a great lead-out for "60 Minutes." Bring in the younger demos and keep the old. What's not to like?!
