EXCLUSIVE: NBCU Memo Confirms Sale of Burbank Lot
Several NBC Universal Divisions to Move to Universal, Most Not Until 2011

Developer M. David Paul/Worthe Real Estate Group purchased NBC Universal’s 34-acre Burbank, Calif., lot, according to an April 24 internal memo acquired by B&C.

According to the memo, at this time. among the groups moving from Burbank to the company’s Universal location are the local NBC and Telemundo stations, NBC Network News on the West Coast, newsmagazine Access Hollywood, NBC Television Entertainment Group, NBC Agency and all in-house promotional productions, as well as some smaller departments.
The memo said the “sale transaction was structured to provide maximum flexibility for our operations during this transition, so we will lease back portions of the Burbank property until the new facility is ready.”
The memo added that many of the moves “will not be happening before 2011 at the earliest, with the exception of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, which will move to Universal Stage One in 2009.”
The sale is in line with plans announced last October, in which the company said it would sell the lot and lease back portions.
The sale was planned as part of NBCU’s move to consolidate operations at the Universal location, including a new state-of-the-art complex targeted to open in 2011.
The sale closes the book on NBC’s Burbank location, which was made famous by Johnny Carson's snarky references during his tenure as host of The Tonight Show.

I think it's a HUGE mistake giving Conan the Tonight Show. He's way to silly for that time slot and extremely predictible. Just watch his show....here's is routine night after night; After his announcer says "Conan O'Briiiiiiannnnn" he walks out to the middle of the stage with his head sligtly tilted down. He stops and makes a quick left turn toward the camera/audience. Walks about 10 steps forward while buttoning his coat and stops. Does his little jump routine and his wind-up restlting in pointing at Max Weinberg. Spins around once. Points to various parts of the studio audience while making some noises and mugging the camera. Finally, he tops it off with some weird faces and noises that are influenced by the person in the audience that made the loudest or most obnoxious noise during the end of the applause.
How predictable! And it's the same crap every night.

They should just keep Conan in NYC and just update his set to say the Tonight Show since most of the crew and his band has deep ties to the North East.

Even though I''ve never been inside the building, I think it''s sad that the home of The Tonight Show w/Johnny Carson, Rowan & Martin''s Laugh-in, The Dean Martin Show, and many other great shows, is probably going to be turned into wherehouse...or something worse.

Interesting as This Saturday, April 28, 2008 is the 50th anniversary of
the dedication of Videotape Central at NBC Burbank.
Is anyone planning a party or other marking of the occasion?
The tape facility inside 3000 West Alameda (at Olive Ave.) cost $1.5
million (1958 dollars)
The facility included one RCA Color Video Tape Recorder and eight
Ampex black-and-white machines that could record color using with
RCA Labs hetrodyne electronics.
NBC began time-zone delay from the Burbank tape facility when
Daylight Savings Time occurred in 1958.
Soon, three more RCA Broadcast Color Recorders were at work.
Pre-recording programs in Burbank happened later.
