Production-switcher and news-automation supplier Ross Video announced several sales of its Vision production switchers to local broadcasters.

Station group Waterman Broadcasting became the first customer for Ross’ new Vision 4 Quattro, a switcher that offers four keys per M/E (mix/effect) and up to four M/Es. Waterman purchased two Quattros for its two Florida stations -- NBC affiliate WBBH Fort Myers and ABC affiliate WZVN Naples -- which produce a combined total of 14 newscasts per day.
WBRZ, the ABC affiliate in Baton Rouge, La. owned by Manship Stations, purchased a Vision Quattro 3.5 M/E switcher along with Ross’ openGear infrastructure products to support its HD build-out.
“The Vision Quattro Multi-Def Switcher offered us a tremendous amount of capability for a good price,” WBRZ chief engineer Clyde Pierce said in a statement. “We also selected Ross for our infrastructure gear because they are part of the openGear frame standard. This definitely puts us in a great position when looking toward the future, as there are a wide range of manufacturers supporting the openGear platform.”
openGear is an infrastructure-equipment platform developed by Ross that can accommodate processing cards, such as digital-to-analog converters, from a variety of terminal equipment manufacturers. The openGear rack frame is a 2RU modular frame that comes in two configurations -- one that holds 10 cards and, new for 2008, a 20-card unit.
openGear now offers 100 solutions from 16 different partners all within one common control and monitoring system from Ross, called Dashboard, which allows quick and easy Internet-protocol-based monitoring and control over all frames and modules on the network.
