HBO Cancels 12 Miles of Bad Road
Pay Cable Network Decided Not to Continue Production After WGA Strike Ended
By Anne Becker -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/17/2008 7:32:00 PM
HBO dropped dramedy 12 Miles of Bad Road. The pay cable network had produced six episodes of the show, which starred Lily Tomlin as the matriarch of a Texas real estate family.

The show's pilot was executive-produced by Designing Women's Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and her husband, Harry Thomason.
While HBO committed to the show at first, executives ultimately deemed it a poor match for the network's sensibilities, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. Production stopped during the writers' strike and HBO decided to not go forward with the project after the strike ended.
Bloodworth-Thomason and Thomason pitched it to several networks since but have not found a taker.
HBO has other originals in the pipeline, namely Alan Ball vampire saga True Bloodand the crime drama The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

first sopranos, now this ! HBO needs to get a clue! my husband & i were SO looking forward to this new show. there were only 3 things keeping me on HBO, sopranos, big love and this.. well since we don't get regular updates on when big love is coming back & since i can see sopranos reruns. i may just forget the expensive cost for keeping just HBO. i do not know what they are doing up there, but i am sick & tired of all dark dreary garbage. i want to see a decent show that can push the limits of reular tv, but still maintain. thats why i LOVED big love. i was also a BIG fan of dallas when it was in its heyday, and was looking forwards to watching another show about the DFW area.

I agree. If the 6 episodes are paid for, then run them. It will do nothing but determine if it's a success. From what I've read about and living here in Dallas, I can only imagine they are spot on with the depiction. As an HBO subscriber, I think I'm going to send them an e-mail because I was truly anxious to see it.

I do not understand HBO droping this show they spent the money and I do not think another network will pick the show up because of the 3.6 million each episode and because it was made for pay tv(showtime is out of the running to air the show) However, I am not droping HBO. HBO has been great so far this year: the wire, In treatment(best new show of the year) and John Adams. looking forward to entourage, big love, true blood, generation kill, and flight of the conchords.

I just HEARD!! I saw this on a promo after The Sopranos finale. I was REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS PROJECT!!!!! HBO is seriously going down hill....and it starts with the poor choices by their decision makers...just because their president stepped down, the new regime did not need to make a drastic change!!

I agree about the last 12 miles of bad road comment. Have heard brilliant things about this show-HBO needs something fresh. I understand their content for offbeat stand up type humor, but they are making a HUGE mistake by not letting this show be judged by their viewers themselves. If they have already purchased it, why not just run it? I think we should take a stand. I, as well, will be canceling my subscription
