TLC Learns The Secret Life of a Soccer Mom
Discovery Networks-Owned Cable Channel Adds Reality Show to Lineup

TLC picked up The Secret Life of a Soccer Mom, a one-hour reality show that takes ordinary stay-at-home mothers and shows them what their lives could have been like had they pursued their careers instead of taking care of the family.
Moms who have always wanted to be chefs, police officers, fashion designers and others will be able to pursue those goals for one week. At the end of the week, the mom can either choose to live the dual life of raising a family and having a career or go back to being a stay-at-home parent.
"Almost every woman experiences the pull between becoming a full-time mom or juggling both family and work. This show will give us the chance to learn what sacrifices and rewards there are in making this challenging and unique decision," TLC senior vice president of programming Brant Pinvidic said in a statement. "Each episode ends up being a remarkable voyage as we see them accomplish goals they never thought possible and then make the decision about which path they should pursue."
Soccer Mom will debut on TLC and TLC HD March 3 at 10 p.m., joining the network’s Monday-night programming lineup, which already includes Little People, Big World and Jon & Kate Plus 8.

I just watched this show for the first time last night. Wow. Who made this executive decision to blatantly undermine the importance of a stay at home mom? I was offended and outraged at the close of the program. Everyone's situation is different. It is a huge sacrifice to make, and it's not for everyone. Whatever happened to accepting people's decisions and encouraging each other in those decisions? How does one exactly define an "ordinary" SAHM? I have been a SAHM for 22 years and I am still raising kids. Let me tell you, over the past 22 years, my life has been anything but ordinary. I am very fulfilled and have never regretted the decision to stay home and raise my children. I don't look down on those who chose another path because I respect the decisions of others. Obviously this program does not.

Hello,
What about my exercise machine, I invented. My name is Gail Williams. A name that should be well known, by now. I had to stop working, right when, I was going to pursue my career. Then, I was blessed with a grandson, right out of the hospital from birth. I've been raising him until he turned 18. Also, don''t let me forget about 5 or 6 years later I was blessed again, with another grandson, at 5, and a grandaughter at 2 years old.
My calling, I call it, is my exercise machine invention. I could go on and on about it, but, nobodies listening to me anyway. No one really realizies it, but me, how helpful my machine can really be for millions of people. I've written to so many people about my exercise machine, and explained every little detail about it to them, but it just looks like, WHO CARES!
There are so many different ways it could help people out, you''d be surprized.
Believe me, if I could get my invention on the market today or anyday, it would be making "millions". That's, how sure I am of my invention!
Hey, I'm going on 62 years old, but people don''t believe it when I tell them. I'm also, a "great" grandmother.

How in the hell do you define an "ordinary" soccer mom? I'm a single mom of 3 kids, two of which are atheletes and I am a soccer mom. I have ran behind my kids and their extra curriculum activities while going to school evenings and working two jobs. Why is it that the single mother is always disregarded? We are doing the dam thing every single day without the help at times of fathers. My ex-husband lives in another state so I don't have the luxury of having someone else pick them up from practices, or take them to practices or give me a break! I had to find a way to juggle it all, find a balance and still keep my sanity. I lived on three sides of this coin: I was a working, married women with kids, a stay at home mom, and now a single mom and I can tell you this...I would TRADE working 9-5 any day to be afforded the luxury of being at home with my kids. My dream of being a singer/songwriter became a dream deferred. I am 40 years young currently, and because my kids are a little older I can now try to get out there, but only as a songwriter. So you see, even today I am still sacrificing some aspect of my dream. Shame on you TLC for excluding some of us who could really use the break!

I think this is a great show concept! I have quite a few SAHMs as friends. There are pros and cons to both life choices. As a full-time working mother, I also think that the opposite would be just as entertaining. In other words, have a full-time working mom stay at home, but take away all of her benefits from working!
