Primetime Ratings: Fox, American Idol Continue to Dominate

Fox Tops Other Four Networks Combined in Tuesday Primetime

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/30/2008 8:04:00 AM

Armed with American Idol and a new episode of top drama House, Fox continued its primetime dominance, averaging a 9.8 rating/24 share in the 18-49 demo and beating everyone else combined on the night.

American Idol

Idol averaged an 11/27 and House an 8.6 -- great numbers in a ratings-challenged, strike altered season (http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6498384.html) but down from the 13 and 10 rating range for each, respectively, on a comparable Tuesday last season.

In distant second was NBC with a 3.2/8 led by The Biggest Loser, which built every half-hour from a 2.6/7 opposite Idol in its first half-hour to a 4.2/10 against House in its last. NBC won the 10 p.m.-11 p.m. time period with a 2.8/8 for a repeat of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

CBS was third with a 3.2/8. Its best showing came from 48 Hours Mystery with a 2.4/7 from 10 p.m.-11 p.m.

ABC was fourth with a 1.4/4 led by a new episode of According to Jim at a 2/5. ABC didn't get much traction with Carpoolers, its only other original of the night, which, at a 1.3/3, came in last from 9:30 p.m.-10 p.m., including behind One Tree Hill on The CW.

The CW averaged a 0.9/2 thanks to One Tree Hill's 1.4/3, the only show to crack a 1 rating for the network.
