Romney, Clinton Air Most New Hampshire TV Spots

Romney Runs Most New Hampshire TV Spots As Of Jan. 4

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/7/2008 3:37:00 PM

Republican and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney bought the largest number of TV ads in New Hampshire and surrounding markets in the run-up (through Jan. 6) to Tuesday's primary, according to Nielsen, with 7,560 of the 28,480 total spots that have been run in three major markets covering New Hampshire as well as parts of Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and Maine.

Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) was second to Romney with 5,259 spots. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) bought 4,844 spots for third place, followed by Republican Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) at 3,981. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was next with 2,840, followed by Democrat and former Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) with 1,467.

The top four on that list pretty much mirrors the current status of the candidates, according to the latest polls. Clinton and Obama are battling for the top spot on the Democrat side (with the No. 2spender on the Democrat side, Obama, having the edge in most polls). Romney and McCain are in the same position in the polls, with No. 2 Republican spender McCain having the edge.
