WNET 13 is spinning off last summer’s Reel New York Film Festival with a revamped Saturday Night at the Movies that features short films by aspiring filmmakers.
Filmmakers can submit their shorts to the Reel 13 Web site. Three contenders will be selected as the week’s featured films. Viewers can view the films and vote on the Reel 13 home page. The winning short will air each Saturday between the night’s classic and indie film selections.
Winners will also get $500 and the benefit of feedback from their peers via the Reel 13 message board.
The revamped Saturday Night launches Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. (EST) with The Paper Chase followed by the winning short and Maureen Foley’s independent film, American Wake.
