Futuramawill make its long-awaited Comedy Central debut Jan. 2.

Futurama, which was canceled by Fox in 2003, is currently in syndication on Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s late-night programming block. The show’s popularity on cable helped lead to the development of four new Futurama movies, the first of which was released on DVD last month.
In addition to airing all 72 of the episodes produced from when it was at Fox, Comedy also acquired the rights to the Futurama movies, which will be broken down into individual episodes when they debut on the network.
Bender’s Big Score, which was released last month on DVD, will be the first of the Futurama movies to debut on Comedy sometime during the first quarter of 2008.
During its first week on the network, Comedy will air Futurama from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Friday. After it premieres, the show will move to its regular time slot, Monday-Thursday at 9 p.m. and Friday at 9:30 p.m.
