NBC Names First ‘Digital Journalist’

Schiavocampo to Report for MSNBC.com’s The Daily Nightly, NBC Nightly News

By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 10/9/2007 10:56:00 AM

NBC News named its first "digital journalist."

Mara Schiavocampo -- who had been free-lancing for a variety of outlets including ABC News Now, ABCNews.com, National Public Radio, Current TV and Yahoo, according to NBC -- was named a digital journalist for the network.

She will report -- including shooting, writing, and editing pieces -- primarily for MSNBC.com’s The Daily Nightly and about new media for NBC Nightly News.

An NBC News spokeswoman said the move did not necessarily herald a new category of digital journalist at the network, but she added that it was the first time the title, rather than "correspondent," had been bestowed.

ABC recently named a number of bureau chiefs and foreign correspondents who are shooting and reporting pieces, primarily for its digital platforms.
