Comedy Central picked up Important Things with Demitri Martin, a sketch-comedy show produced by Jon Stewart’s Busboy Productions.
The episodes will be structured in Demitri Martin’s stream-of-consciousness style of comedy. Each episode will have a single topic -- anything from “What happens after we die?” to “Apples” -- and Martin will present sketches and skits presenting his point of view on the subject.
"Demitri Martin is truly an original. He's the only guy who can take you on a hilarious journey on the importance of apples for 30 minutes and make you laugh and make you think," Comedy executive vice president of original programming and development Lauren Corrao said in a statement.
"He's a regular on The Daily Show [with Jon Stewart], we've toured with him, done a CD together and a one-hour special,” she added. “Obviously, we're huge fans of Demitri and Busboy and are extremely excited about taking the next step with them."
Martin contributes a segment called “Trendspotting” to The Daily Show, and he also had a stand-up special on the network called Demitri Martin. Person.
“This announcement seems very important,” Martin said in a statement. “I’m very excited to be at Comedy Central and looking forward to making one of the top shows of all time -- ever. Also, I need to clean my apartment and thank Jon Stewart.”
Important Things is set to debut in the second half of 2008.
