CNBC Shuffles Schedule, Benches On the Money

Kudlow & Company , Fast Money Shift Times

By Marisa Guthrie -- Broadcasting & Cable, 9/27/2007 3:57:00 PM

CNBC is benchingOn the Money, the investing hour hosted by Melissa Francis that airs at 7 p.m.

Political hourKudlow & Company, currently seen at 5 p.m., will move into On the Money’s time slot. Dylan Ratigan’sFast Money will move to 5 p.m. and will rerun at 8 p.m.

The schedule changes are effective Oct. 10, five days before the launch of Fox Business Network.

Moving Fast Money to 5 p.m., one hour after the market closes, “will provide maximum value to our audience closer to the conclusion of trading,” CNBC president Mark Hoffman said in a statement.

The network also is looking to give Larry Kudlow a more high profile time slot as the 2008 election season heats up. The new time slot, Hoffman added, gives Kudlow “the ability to draw from a strong, deep pool of leading experts.”

CNBC is coming off of a particularly successful August. The network posted its best August in five years, thanks in part to the volatile summer stock market, posting 50% gains over August 2006.

However, On the Money and some of CNBC’s other primetime shows (including Fast Money andMad Money) have had a rough September.

On the Money has scratched 14 out of 22 telecasts (from Aug. 27-Sept. 26). In ratings parlance, a telecast gets a scratch when it attracts fewer than 51,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic.
