Univision Proposes Spanish-Language Presidential Forums
By John Eggerton -- Broadcasting & Cable, 8/7/2007 2:51:00 PM
Univision wants the presidential candidates to speak to its TV, radio and online audience in Spanish -- simultaneous translation -- on issues affecting the Hispanic community.
Univision contacted the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates about participating in 90-minute TV forums in September on issues like health care and immigration.
The network pointed out that Hispanics are the fastest-growing segment of the electroate -- one that it said will play a "pivotal" role in the upcoming election.
All of the questions will be in Spanish, with simultaneous translations into English for the candidates -- though not viewers -- then the candidates' answers will be translated back into Spanish.

"8/8/07 This is an English-speaking nation, like it or leave it! All presidential debates will be in English only. If you want to vote in the USA,first make sure you are here LEGALLY, THEN LEARN ENGLISH, THEN APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP. ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE FULFILLED THESE REQUIREMENTS, ARE YOU ELGIBLE TO VOTE. BY THE WAY, NO MORE SPANISH BALLOTS "

This is rediculous, we are a English speaking country, we have many languages besides Spanish.Immigrants who become Citizens have to pass an English criteria and speak English TO VOTE, so why is it that univision decides to pander to those who speak Spanish? I''''''''m Italian and want them to speak Italian, there are millions of Italian Citizens in this country.I wouldn''''''''t vote for any candidate who participates in this divisive pandering.

I am a native of Spain, and proud American citizen, but I agree with you, this is an English speaking country, there is no room, and there is no reason for pandering in such a shameless way to the Hispanic community, then what about Italian , Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, they also have large communities in this country. The PC in this country is just gotten out of hand
