ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson Tops in 2007
Newscast Breaks Drought of More than 10 Years
By Marisa Guthrie -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/3/2008 9:14:00 AM
For the first time in more than 10 years, ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson finished the year as the top-rated evening newscast.

World News finished 2007 ahead of NBC’sNightly News with Brian Williams in total viewers and the 25-54 demographic. According to Nielsen Media Research, World News averaged 8.39 million viewers each week (with 2.58 million in the demo) compared with Nightly’s 8.3 million total (2.52 million in the demo).
CBS Evening News with Katie Couric closed 2007 with 6.44 million viewers (2.01 million in the demo).
World News weathered months of turmoil beginning with the death of longtime anchor Peter Jennings in August 2005 and followed by the grievous injuries sustained by Bob Woodruff in January 2006 and Elizabeth Vargas’ resignation later that year. After finally settling on Charles Gibson as its anchor, it gradually gained ground, overtaking perennial leader NBC in February 2007.

For many, many years CG has been one of if not my favorite newscaster. And now in my mind he's down the tubes with the nay sayers who would condemn Sarah Palin and John McCain while promoting the totally unqualified Obama. What I really wish somebody could tell me is WHY.
Gibson, you're out of it.

in your interview with Sarah Palin, will you ask her about her connection with the AIP?

As regular viewer of NBC nightly news I am looking forward to you interview with Gov Palin. I hope however, that you are not, like your bosses at MSNBC/NBC cowered by the RNC, McCain campaign and the Right . I expect you to ask tough questions. While I agree that the 'pregnancy" issue would normally be "private" in this case its not because the Right make "teen pregnancy" such a devisive issue. By their own standard the Palins have failed in their parenting of this child.
I am very dissapointed in the Obermann/Mathews decision and will decide weather or not to continue to watch NBC based on your interview.

Charlie Gibson,
I thought you might be interested in my unscientific poll on the presidental the election. For some time I have been keeping track of the e-mails recieved pertaining to the candidates. In over 150 hits (mostly very bad jokes or stories), all of them have been anti Obama. Yes 100% have been against Obama and not one e-mail against McCain. Results: McCain in a landslide. Incidentally, I am a registered Democrat.
